we all know the chair, 2016, oil on canvas
"We All Know The Chair" is a series of two paintings, and is essentially an attempt to bring the memes home. Based on the meme "we all know the chair", I try to merge mediums of communication from the past to the present equivalent of it, i.e. memes.
Memes carry information and are a starting point of many conversations within its viewers, which in turn lead to formation of knowledge or ideological stands. Memes are a cultural influencer, and are more than what they seem to be on the surface, i.e. eerie observations or absurd jokes.
This is an archival of content that is found in excess. Turning a digital image into a series of painting appropriates the medium and re-contextualises it, and bringing forth the 'medium is the message'.
Some responses I got from my followers on tumblr when I posted a question about 'we all know the chair' meme and asking how many people had it or could relate to it.
