This series of photographs shows the ganga river and a lady taking out a coconut from the water. The river is considered to have holy properties, and bathing in it is supposed to have healing properties. Ashes of the dead are often dispersed into the river along with coconuts and other artefacts that are believed to bring them good luck and wealth in their next life.
The series shows a lady taking out a coconut from ganga, and shows how the river looks nowadays. It is filled with foam that is a result of the harmful factory wastes being dumped in the holy river, and common activities around it. It is a source and space of ritual and worship, but also livelihood to many people. The lady's face is hidden to maintain privacy.
